Q: I have some deep wrinkles on my chin and cheeks. Are there any long-term options to get rid of them that don’t involve needles or surgery? Kathy, Syracuse
A. Kathy, you are not alone with your concerns. Whether those stubborn wrinkles that bother you are from sun damage, genetics or just part of the aging process, there are many non-surgical ways to soften and even eliminate them. One of my favorite options is with a laser treatment called Pearl Fractional®. I recommend this for many of my patients because not only can they see a great improvement in their wrinkles, but also with eliminating brown spots and improving their overall complexion. They also report seeing plumper and firmer looking skin. This laser treatment essential combines several treatments into one procedure without the need for needles, surgery or anesthesia.
Let me explain a little more about the treatment. Pearl Fractional is a laser designed for improving significant photoaging and deep, facial imperfections such as wrinkles and acne scarring. It can be used on the entire face and is uniquely effective in the areas around the eyes and mouth, which often show signs of aging first. Patients appreciate the fact that it provides both immediate and long-term anti-aging benefits with just one treatment. It is designed to provide improvement in your complexion including the texture, tone and discoloration as well as helping to restore volume. Pearl Fractional creates smoother, firmer and plumper skin that looks fuller, younger and healthier.
During the procedure, Kathy, the laser uses heat to create tiny columns deep in your skin. The process removes sun-damaged tissue and then stimulates the growth of healthy, new skin, full of fresh collagen. This plumps the skin from below, eliminating wrinkles, creating more volume and repairing photodamage and other imperfections. With minimal downtime, many patients start to see improvement in their skin after one week, but will continue to see results for up to six months following their treatment as new collagen continues to grow and plump the skin. It is a very safe treatment as well, Kathy. Cutera, the company who makes the Pearl Fractional laser, received FDA approval in 2008. This technology is the most up-to-date available. It replaces the old CO2 laser resurfacing treatments, which had weeks of downtime and required anesthesia.
If you want to find out if you are a good candidate for this procedure, I recommend you have a consultation with a trained medical aesthetics provider. She can assess your skin and your concerns and determine if a Pearl Fractional treatment is right for you.
