Q: My face gets really red and I have some veins around my nose. Is there a skin care product that will take care of this? Andrea, Warsaw
A. Andrea, this is a very common question that I get asked in my practice so please know you are not alone. So often we simply reach for a skin care product to treat our many facial concerns such as acne, fine lines and brown spots; unfortunately, when dealing with facial redness and veins a topical product will not help. Depending on the cause of your redness, some medical skin care products can temporarily calm the skin or makeup can mask the problem, but in order to treat the root of the concern it must be done with a laser.
I recommend a laser procedure known as Laser Genesis to treat redness. This procedure utilizes non-invasive laser technology to safely, discretely and effectively diffuse excessive redness and also can help manage large pores. By gently heating the upper dermis well below your skin’s surface, Laser Genesis also stimulates collagen regrowth to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness. You can expect to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment, without unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation or downtime. Laser Genesis can be done on a lunch hour and make up may be applied immediately after the treatment.
Those visible facial veins around your nose, Andrea, are more than likely broken blood vessels. They can quickly and easily be treated with a laser as well. The laser safely, quickly and successfully treats both spider veins and vascular lesions on men and women of all skin tones. Often, patients find that one or two treatments are sufficient with only minimal redness and swelling. It can often be very freeing for patients to not feel like they have to cover up their veins or redness any longer with makeup.
Andrea, I know from many of my patients how frustrating facial redness and those annoying veins can be. While, unfortunately, a topical product at home will not solve the problem a laser treatment can. If you have any questions about facial redness or veins, be sure to consult with a medical professional for a proper evaluation.
