A. With the start of fall this week, Kim, you are not alone. I am frequently hearing patients in my office complain of the brown spots on their face, chest and hands. The summer sun has taken its toll and left behind visible damage commonly referred to as age spots or freckles. Kim, I appreciate your honesty and knowing yourself well enough to know that a medical skin care regime might not be the best option for you at least to start out with. The good news is there are alternative treatment methods to achieve an even, glowing complexion.
LimeLight® is an FDA approved laser treatment that can lighten and erase your brown spots leaving your skin clearer and brighter in as little as 30 minutes. The laser works by destroying the discoloration in the brown spots without damaging the skin’s surface. Following your treatment, the spots will actually appear darker for a few days. Those spots will then slough off leaving you with fresh, even skin. There is no downtime associated with the treatment. This procedure is also referred to as a “photofacial.” It brightens the skin significantly, resulting in a healthy, youthful glow. Depending on the patient, more than one treatment may be needed for optimal results.
The LimeLight laser is also a very effective treatment for brown spots on the neck, chest and hands. These are often forgotten areas of our body that can quickly show our age even if we are treating our face. When treating the brown spots on the face it is the perfect time to also treat the spots on the neck and chest if needed so your complexion blends together nicely.
In order to maintain your results, Kim, you will need to be diligent about applying an SPF 30 or higher every single day. If you plan to be outside more than two hours, you will need to reapply it in order for the sunscreen to remain effective.
Kim, I recommend you consult with a medical aesthetics professional to see if you are a good candidate for the LimeLight laser treatment. She can assess your skin and determine the best treatment plan for you and your goals.
